True story…

A customer came to see us with a really nice little notebook PC, containing all his photos. We used some of them for his new website, and along the way we discussed getting an external drive to back them all up.

A week later, while he was still thinking about spending the £75 for a nice big external drive, his inquisitive cat knocked his coffee mug over – you guessed it – sugary tea all over the keyboard. After some fizzing and sparking, the PC was useless and wouldn’t start up even after being left upside down to dry.

Oh dear.

As you might imagine, our customer was very worried. Years of work were invested in those photographs, and many of them were unique, never printed out or saved elsewhere.

Within hours, he was in his car on his way to us to collect a new notebook PC, and with fingers crossed that we would be able to rescue something.

Luckily, with the aid of a low-cost external drive casing, we recovered nearly everything from the hard disk. The Windows installation was damaged, but the data was intact.

You can be sure he now has that backup disk. Of course, he also has the original disk in the external casing – not large enough in capacity for backups, but at least it’s an extra copy of the old data.
